A Decade of Service: MB2 Volunteers Make an Impact in Jamaica

This summer marked a significant milestone for MB2 Dental as doctors, hygienists, and team members gathered for the 10th annual mission trip to Jamaica. What began a decade ago as an opportunity to give back has grown into a meaningful tradition rooted in service, compassion, and a shared commitment to improving access to dental care.

This year’s team included 17 doctors who donated their time and expertise to provide care at The Good Shepherd Foundation’s Hope Clinic in Montego Bay. They were joined by five dental hygienists, including MB2’s Senior Director of Education, Lindsey Chambers, who stepped back into a clinical role and drew on her previous experience as a dental hygienist to help treat patients throughout the mission.

The trip also included members of the MB2 and Carabelli Club leadership teams, including Maddie Allardyce, Vice President of Strategy and Operations, and Amanda Urteaga, Executive Vice President of Central Operations for Carabelli Club. Together, the group spent two days providing essential dental care to members of the local community.

The need was evident from the moment patients began arriving. As volunteers worked throughout the clinic, they saw firsthand the demand for quality dental care and the impact their time and expertise could make.

Over the course of the mission, the team treated 410 patients and completed 545 procedures, including 173 fillings, 203 extractions, and 169 cleanings.

Behind every procedure was a person seeking relief, a healthier smile, and access to care that might otherwise have been delayed or unavailable. For many volunteers, the experience served as a reminder of why they chose careers in dentistry in the first place.

“Coming here truly reminds me why I became a dentist, to help people. Get people out of pain, get people’s smiles looking nicer, and it just kind of deletes a lot of the other stresses that we deal with on a day-to-day basis. We just focus on helping people.” Dr. Rusy Crofts, General Dentist – Oregon

In addition to delivering care, the trip highlighted the collaborative spirit that makes these missions possible. Volunteers stepped outside their typical roles, worked across specialties, and supported one another wherever help was needed in order to serve as many patients as possible.

“All of us here have the same exact mentality and the same mission to help as many people as possible. So, if that means a periodontist is doing a filling even though they haven’t done it in fifteen years, or I’m assisting another dentist, we all just want to get the work done and help as many people as possible. To have this whole group be so collaborative and helpful with one another, it’s really amazing.” Dr. Emily Bujnoski, General Dentist – Arizona

That spirit of teamwork has helped sustain this mission trip for the past 10 years and continues to reflect MB2’s commitment to serving communities both inside and outside the practices we support.

Thank You to Our Sponsors and Partners

While the doctors, hygienists, and team members were on the ground providing care, this mission was truly a collective effort. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the sponsors and partners who helped make this trip possible.

As they do each year, Jamaicans Caring for Jamaicans (JCJ) played an essential role by helping coordinate licensing, spreading the word throughout the community, and providing on-site support throughout the mission. This also would not have been possible without Jamaica Tours Limited (JTL), who generously provided transportation for volunteers across the island at no cost. Their partnership helps ensure the mission runs smoothly and allows volunteers to focus on delivering care to those in need.

We would also like to thank Envista, Henry Schein, Patterson, Midwest, AmTouch, DDS Dental, Cadmus Dental Lab, Surgimac, Dental City, Diatech, and Crest Oral-B for their generous support.

Together, their contributions played a vital role in helping our team serve patients. Because of their partnership, hundreds of individuals received essential dental care that may not have otherwise been available. We are grateful for their commitment to helping us make a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.

A Lasting Impact

While the statistics from this year’s trip are impressive, participants say the most meaningful part of the experience was the gratitude shown by the patients and the opportunity to use their skills to make a difference.

As MB2 celebrates the 10th anniversary of this annual mission trip, the impact extends far beyond the numbers. It’s found in the patients who received care, the volunteers who dedicated their time and expertise, and the lasting reminder that dentistry has the power to change lives.

Through service, collaboration, and a shared mission to help others, this year’s team carried on a tradition that continues to make a meaningful difference, one smile at a time.
